Community Engagement Sites

What is a Community Engagement Site?

Community Engagement Sites are “hubs” for community members to access programs, services and courseware through videoconferencing or other broadband learning applications. Rather than traveling to major centres to access opportunities, rural residents from students to seniors, business and industry owners and workers, and First Nations members will make the connection over the SuperNet. Instead of trying to navigate the learning applications and opportunities on their own, on-site support will be available to coach and guide them. This support is crucial to begin developing a “culture of use” so that people can achieve the full benefits and the full potential this type of high-speed access can provide.

Who are we?

Community Engagement Sites are now operational in Bowden, Cremona, Delburne, Elnora, Hanna, Spruce view and Sundre. Coming on stream in fall 2010 are Carstairs, Penhold and Sylvan Lake.

What we offer

Each community engagement site offers access to  learning opportunities for school staff and students, the business community and the general public. Workshops, credit courses and general interest courses are offered via video-conferencing or face-to-face.  Each site includes state of the art high-definition video-conferencing ,  SMARTBOARD©
technology, wireless internet, stereo sound system ,a high-definition document camera and a Blu-ray© DVD player.

Each site has two video-conferencing suites; the large room can accommodate up to twenty participants, and the small suite has a high-definition desk top unit that can comfortably seat four. Bowden, Cremona, Delburne and Sundre are equipped with a 2nd high-definition desktop unit.
